Nebraska's state flag, seal, and motto.
This is the state flag of Nebraska. It consists of a national blue background, the state seal in gold, and the state motto written on a ribbon in the sky. This symbol was proposed to be adopted as the state's banner in 1925. It wasn't until 1963 that the banner was actually designated to be the state flag. This means that Nebraska was one of the last states in the country to adopt an official state flag.
The state seal was adopted quite a bit earlier than the state flag in 1867. The eastern part of the seal shows a steamboat ascending the Missouri River, the mechanic arts are represented by a smith with a hammer and anvil, in the foreground, agriculture is represented by a settlers cabin, sheaves of wheat, and stalks of growing corn, in the background a train of cars heading towards the Rocky Mountains, and on the extreme west, the Rocky Mountains, around the top of the circle in capital letters, the motto: "Equality Before the Law," and the seal is surrounded with the words, "Great Seal of the State of Nebraska".
The state motto, "Equality Before the Law" means that everyone, regardless of their race, gender, religion, social status, or financial status be treated fairly under the law. This motto was adopted at the same time the state seal was officially adopted in 1867.
